Delicious Children's Birthday Treats: Chocolate Cake Bars

This one is our personal favorite and the recipe that is featured in the back of the Wickity Stitch Birthday Blues book!

We have a chocolate bar recipe that we make from scratch that is yummy and delicious! Again, if you're pressed for time, you can always use a boxed cake mix and use your favorite one at that:)

This recipe is exceptionally chocolatey and super delicious. Of course, Wickity Stitch wouldn't have any other flavor for her birthday cake :)

Wickity Stitch Birthday Cake Chocolate Bars Recipes

Ingredients:

2 cups of unbleached all purpose flour

1 cup of melted unsalted butter

2 cups of sugar

1 cup of dutch process cocoa

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of baking powder

1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

5 large eggs

1/2 cup of water

1 cup of chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9" x 13" pan.

Combine the melted butter and sugar, stirring until smooth.

Stir in the cocoa, salt, baking powder, vanilla, and espresso powder.

Beat in the eggs one at a time. Scrape the bowl, then add the water, stirring until smooth.

Add chips and stir till completely through the batter.

Spoon the batter into the prepared pan.

Bake the cake for 28 to 30 minutes or until they're cooked through.

Remove the pan from the oven and let cool before decorating!

These are great to make the day before an event if these are made for a fun decorating activity!

This recipe is a little more intensive that what we usually feature, but it is well worth it and if you are just as obsessed with chocolate, like Wickity Stitch, than you will not pass up this recipe:)

These chocolate bars are lighter in weight than a brownie, so they're not heavy at all. But full disclosure, you will just be wanting more!

The best way to make this kid friendly birthday treat is to prepare it as a sheet cake. Cut the chocolate cake in rectangular shapes and have all your decorative bits ready on hand for creative individual decorating. These are great in size to prepare beforehand, for the party attendees to indulge with their little fingers. Overall, that is the best way to eat chocolate cake, are we right?!

We also opt that this certainly can be a fun activity for a kids party, for any holiday. Children love to be artistic and technically love playing with their food;)
